The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved a proposal to appoint a consultation firm at an expense of Tk 640.55 crore for the construction of a bridge over the Payra river.

Along with this, some other proposals were approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and Public Procurement in a virtual meeting chaired by the finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal Sunday morning. After the meeting, Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division, Md. Shamsul Arefin briefed the journalists about the permitted proposals.

He said the construction works of the bridge over the Payra River along the Kachua-Betagi-Patuakhali-Lohalia-Kalaiya road by the Bangladesh Bridges Authority under the Bridges Department has been jointly undertaken by SAMWHAN and MIR AKHTER companies at an expense of Tk 640.55 crore.

Samsul Arefin said during the meeting, a project that exceeded its original cost has got an additional l,249.01 crore. The fund was spent by the Bangladesh Water Development Board under the Ministry of Water Resources for the variation of construction work of package no. DPM-01 for the “Protection of the right bank of Padma River in Jajira and Naria upazilas of Shariatpur district”. 

Another proposal worth Tk 124.82 crore spent by M /S Saleh Ahmed for the completion of Package No. WP-01 of “Shariatpur-Jajira-Naodoba (Padma Bridge Link Road) Development project” by the Roads and Highways Department under the Road Transport and Highways Department, was also approved.
