After a gap of two years the government on Thursday awarded 176 businesspeople with commercially important person (CIP) cards for the year 2018.
Of the businesspeople, 138 have been given the cards under the ‘product and services’ category and 38 as leaders of different trade bodies.
Tipu Munshi, commerce minister, handed over the CIP cards to the recipients at a programme held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.
The government could not hand over the CIP cards for 2020 and 2021 due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, the commerce ministry said in a statement.
CIPs get access to the VIP lounge at airports and secretariat offices and priority in booking cabins at government hospitals and transports.
The commerce minister said, “There are many problems and obstacles before us to move forward which we have to overcome efficiently.”
“We cannot compete in the global export market with a small number of products. For this, the number of exportable products has to be increased and the market has to be expanded. We have to expand to countries where our products have great demand,” he suggested.
“By 2040, we have to make Bangladesh into a developed nation and our realise Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s dream of a golden Bengal,” he added.
