Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has been awarded the ‘WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards’ by World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) for using ‘Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System’.

The trade organisation won the award in Sustainable Growth/Circular Economy Award category in 25th WCIT (World Congress on Information Technology), said a press release on Tuesday.

Md Shahid-Ul-Munir, vice chairman, WITSA Asia Pacific handed over this prestigious award to BGMEA.

Among others, WITSA Chairman Yannis Sirros and Secretary-General Dr Jim H Poisant were connected virtually.

The Director of BGMEA Rajiv Chowdhury and on behalf of the Software Manufacturer and Maintenance Company, CEO of Systech Digital Limited M Rashidul Hasan received the award on behalf of BGMEA.

WITSA is the leading recognized voice of the global digital technology industry, whose members from over 80 countries and economies represent more than 90 percent of the world’s ICT market.

The WITSA Awards recognize the entities that made the most significant contributions to mankind in 2021.

In 2013, the ‘Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System (Worker Database)’ software was implemented throughout the country with the initiative of BGMEA to ensure all the facilities to the owners and workers of the growing ready-made garment industry.

The software system stores biometric fingerprints and photos for combined biometric ID, jobs, and all other information of all workers in the factory in the local and cloud server databases, which are used later on to identify and confirm with all other factory workers.

This database provides all kinds of information related to Service books, Insurance, UD, Cash incentives, and other purposes in one click to the garment industry personnel.

Currently, this software is being used by about 2500 factories of BGMEA for more than 4 million workers every day.

Tiger IT Bangladesh and Systech Digital Limited technically assisted in developing, installing, training, and maintaining the software.
