The High Court has formed a five-member committee headed by former appellate division justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik to undertake steps to set the fate of the controversial e-commerce platform Evaly.

The other members of the committee are Md Rezaul Hasan, a former secretary, Mahbub Kabir Milon, a former additional secretary, Fakhruddin Ahmed, a chartered accountant and Kham Mohammad Shamim Aziz, a lawyer of the company.

A single member bench of the HC of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar formed the committee during a hearing on a petition in this regard on Monday.

The committee will also assess the customers’ liabilities of the e-commerce company, in light of the HC directives.

Earlier on 13 October, the commerce ministry recommended names of three former secretaries as the member of the committee.

According to Evaly’s assessment, it possesses around Tk121 crore, while its liabilities to the customers and merchants around Tk1,000 crore.

The company accumulated the money in advance payments by luring people with massive discounts on products and promising delivery within seven to 45 days.

But, the company has failed to uphold its commitment to its many buyers.
