15 new Covid cases recorded, infection rate crosses 1%

The health authorities recorded a total of 15 new cases of coronavirus from different parts of the country in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, showing an upward trend in the infection rate of the virus compared to that of the previous day.

However, no death caused by the virus was reported elsewhere in the country during the same period, said the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) in a handout on Saturday afternoon.

The infection rate of the virus climbed to 1.02 percent which was 0.55 percent a day ago, said the DGHS in the handout.

With the updated data, the death toll of the virus remained static at 29,445 while the caseload rose to 20,37,919 as of Friday, said DGHS.

The health department diagnosed the new cases after testing 1,476, samples at 885 government-authorised laboratories during the same period across the country.

Meanwhile, some 134 people were released from the virus-related illness, pushing the total number of recoveries to 20,06,567.

The mortality and recovery rate of the virus remained unchanged at 1.44 percent and 98.46 percent respectively.

The health authorities recorded eight Covid cases each from Dhaka and seven from Mymensingh division during the 24 hours period.

Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28, 2022, and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 of the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, recorded 68, 11, 353 deaths caused by the virus so far and 68,14,19, 103 cases worldwide.
