Dhaka sees 8 new Covid cases with no death in last 24hrs

The health authorities recorded a total of eight new cases of coronavirus in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, showing an increasing trend in the infection rate of the virus compared to that of the previous day.

However, no death caused by the virus was reported elsewhere in the country during the same period, said the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) in a handout on Wednesday afternoon.

The infection rate of the virus climbed to 0.71 percent from yesterday’s 0.44 percent, said the DGHS in the handout.

With the updated data, the death toll of the virus remained static at 29,445 while the caseload rose to 20,37,887 as of Wednesday said DGHS.

The health department diagnosed the new cases after testing 1,134, samples at 885 government-authorised laboratories during the same period across the country.

Meanwhile, some 421 people were released from the virus-related illness, pushing the total number of recoveries to 20,05,857.

The mortality rate of the virus remained unchanged at 1.44 percent while the recovery rate climbed to 98.43 percent which was 98.41 percent a day ago.

Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28, 2022, and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 of the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, recorded 68, 06, 854 deaths caused by the virus so far and 68,08,93, 434 cases worldwide.
