12 new Covid cases recorded, positivity rate rose to 0.85%

Bangladesh health authorities recorded 12 more fresh cases of coronavirus with no related death in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, showing an upward trend in infection rate compared to that of the previous day.

The daily case positivity rate rose to 0.85 percent which was 0.77 percent a day ago. The new cases were detected after testing 1,408 samples at 884 government-authorised laboratories in the country during the period.

With the updated data, the death toll from the virus remained static at 29,441 while the caseload stood at 20, 37, 506, said a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The mortality rate of the virus declined to 1.44 percent while the recovery rate rose to 97.77 percent from yesterday’s 97.76 percent, said the DGHS.

Meanwhile, some 217 persons recovered from the virus-related illness taking the total number of the recovery to 19, 92,009.

The health authorities detected 11 cases of the virus in Dhaka division and one case in Chattogram division during the period.

Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28, 2022 and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 of the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, recorded 67, 55, 747 deaths so far caused by the virus and 67,44,11, 804 cases worldwide.
