9 new Covid cases with zero death recorded in last 24hrs

Bangladesh health authorities recorded nine fresh cases of coronavirus with no related death in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, showing a downward trend in infection rate of the virus compared to that of the previous day.

The daily case positivity rate rose to 0.32 percent down from yesterday’s 0.53 percent, after testing 2,823 samples at 883 government authorised laboratories in the country during the period.

With the updated data, the death toll from the virus remained static at 29,441 while the caseload stood at 20, 37, 408, said a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The mortality and recovery rates of the virus remained static at 1.45 percent and 97.68 percent respectively, said the DGHS.

Meanwhile, some 230 persons recovered from the virus-related illness taking the total number of the recovery to 19, 90,396.

The health authorities detected seven cases of the virus in Dhaka division, one each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions during the period.

The country reported its first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 infections.

The health department recorded 40 deaths from the virus and 13,251 cases in September.

Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 of the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, recorded 67, 36, 651 deaths so far caused by the virus and 67,23,36, 980 cases worldwide.
