Bangladesh health authorities recorded 17 new cases of coronavirus with zero death in the last 24 hours till Monday morning, according to the health department.

The daily case positivity rate stood at 0.72 percent down from yesterday’s 0.84 percent, after testing 2,370 samples at 883 government authorised laboratories in the country during the period.

With the updated data, the death toll from the virus remained unchanged at 29,440 while the caseload stood at 20, 37, 284, said a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The mortality rate of the virus remained static at 1.45 percent while the recovery rate rose to 97.62 percent from yesterday’s 97.61 percent, said the DGHS.

Meanwhile, some 119 persons recovered from the virus-related illness taking the total number of the recovery to 19, 88,714.

The health authorities detected 16 cases in Dhaka and one in Mymensingh divisions during the period.

The country reported its first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 infections.

The health department recorded 40 deaths from the virus and 13,251 cases in September.

Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 of the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, recorded 67, 14, 266 deaths so far caused by the virus and 66, 88, 09, 027 cases worldwide.
