18 Covid cases recorded with zero death in last 24hrs

Bangladesh health authorities recorded zero death from coronavirus and 18 new cases in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, according to the health department.

With the updated data, the death toll from the virus remained static at 29,433 while the caseload stood at 20,36, 585, said a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily case positivity rate stood at 0.81 percent up from yesterday’s 0.72 percent, after testing 2,234 samples at 883 government authorised laboratories in the country during the period.

The mortality and recovery rates of the virus remained static at 1.45 percent and 97.51 percent respectively, said the DGHS.

Meanwhile, some 68 persons recovered from the virus-related illness taking the total number of the recovery to 19,85,836.

Besides, the health authorities detected 11 cases in Dhaka division, three each in Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions and one in Khulna division.

The country reported its first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 infections.

The health department recorded 40 deaths from the virus and 13,251 cases in September.

Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 of the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has recorded 66, 39, 181 deaths so far caused by the virus and 64, 75, 88, 531 cases worldwide.

90 lakh people to get Covid vaccine on Dec 1-7

The government will administer coronavirus vaccines to 90 lakh people in a seven-day special campaign to begin across the country from December 1 to 7.

The vaccination campaign will be conducted from 15,948 centres across the country, he added.

NTAC recommends fourth dose of Covid vaccine

The National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 has recommended the fourth dose of coronavirus vaccine for the frontline fighters including doctors and nurses, expected mothers and people aged over 60 years.

The government has so far vaccinated 14.69 million people with the first dose and over 12 million with the second dose, the minister mentioned on that day.
