23 Covid cases with zero death recorded in last 24hrs

Bangladesh health authorities recorded zero death from coronavirus and 23 new cases in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, according to the health department.

With the updated data, the death toll of the virus remained static at 29,431 while the caseload mounted to 20,36, 461, said a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily case positivity rate stood at 0.89 percent up from Monday’s 0.66 percent, after testing 2,578 samples at 883 government authorised laboratories in the country during the period.

The mortality rate of the virus remained static at 1.45 percent while the recovery rate reached 97.48 percent up from yesterday’s 97.46 percent, said the DGHS.

Meanwhile, some 136 persons recovered from the virus-related illness taking the total number of the recovery to 19,85,088.

Besides, the health authorities detected 16 cases in Dhaka division, one each in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, three in Chattogram and two in Rajshahi divisions.

The country reported its first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 infections.

The health department recorded 40 deaths from the virus and 13,251 cases in September.

Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 of the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has recorded 66, 28, 055 deaths so far caused by the virus and 64, 36, 14, 261 cases worldwide.
