Bangladesh health authorities recorded two more deaths from the coronavirus and 696 new cases in the last 24 hours till Monday morning according to the health department.

With the updated data, the death toll of the virus rose to 29,371 while the caseload mounted to 20,26,908, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily case positivity rate stood at 12.00 percent which was 14.35 percent on Sunday, said the DGHS.

Besides, the recovery and mortality rate of the virus remained static at 97.03 percent and 1.45 percent respectively..

The new cases were detected after testing 5,801 samples at 881 government-authorised laboratories in the country during the 24 hours.

Meanwhile, some 538 patients recovered from the virus-related illness taking the total number to 19,66,645.

The two male victims were aged between 61 and 70 years and one of them was from Dhaka and another one from Sylhet divisions.

The health authorities also detected 590 cases in Dhaka, 11 in Mymensingh, 36 in Chattogram, 26 in Rajshahi, two in Rangpur, 11 each in Khulna and Barishal divisions and nine in Sylhet divisions during the period.

The country reported its first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 infections.

The health department recorded 40 deaths from the virus and 13,251 cases in September.

Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 of the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has recorded 65, 50, 956 deaths so far caused by the virus and 62, 35, 55, 646 cases worldwide.

16 people die in the last six days from September 26

The health authorities recorded a total of 16 deaths from the coronavirus between September 26 and October 2.

Of them, seven were vaccinated and nine were unvaccinated and of the seven, one was the first dose recipient, four were the second dose and two were the booster dose recipients.
