A total of 21 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours until Friday morning, according to the health department.

Of them, 16 patients were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka during the period, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a hand out this afternoon.

Some 110 dengue patients, including 102 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at different public and private hospitals across the country.

On Tuesday, the health authorities reported first death of the season from the mosquito-borne viral disease.

This year, the DGHS recorded 885 dengue cases and 774 recoveries so far.

Dengue, a leading cause of serious illness and death, was first reported in Bangladesh in 2000 and claimed 93 lives. In three years, the fatality number almost fell to zero.

However, 105 dengue patients, including 95 in Dhaka division, died in 2021.
