Bangladesh recorded one coronavirus-related death after 29 straight deathless days and 16 new cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, according to the health department.

The daily case positivity rate stood at 0.41 percent down from yesterday’s 0.79 percent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a handout this afternoon.

The mortality and recovery rate of the virus remained unchanged at 1.49 percent and 97.31 percent during the 24 hours period respectively.

With the new death reported during the period, the total fatalities from the virus rose to 29,128.

Besides, the caseload mounted 19,53,04 with the new cases were detected after testing 3,927 samples at 879 government authorised laboratories during the period.

Some 172 patients were declared free from the virus taking the total number of recovery to 19,00,747 as of Saturday.

During the period, the health authorities recorded 10 new cases in Dhaka and six in Sylhet divisions.

The lone male victim age between 41 and 50 years breathed his last during undergoing treatment at a public hospital in Dhaka division during the 24 hours period.

The country reported its first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 infections.

On January 28, Bangladesh registered its previous highest daily positivity rate at 33.37 percent reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

The country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.

Since the outbreak of the virus at Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020 and the first death on March 18 in the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has so far recorded 62, 99, 121 deaths so far caused by the virus and 52, 68,18, 831 cases worldwide.
