The government will begin vaccination campaign for schoolchildren from November 1 in the country, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said.

The schoolchildren between 12 and 17 years old will be given the jabs, the minister told reporters after emerging from the regular weekly cabinet meeting on Thursday afternoon.

A total of 12 vaccine centres will be set up in the capital Dhaka to run the vaccination campaign smoothly, Maleque said.

The government conducted a trial run of vaccination campaign for school students aged between 12 and 17 years at Colonel Maleque Medical College in Manikganj on October 14.

Earlier, ABM Khurshid Alam, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said that they will observe the side effects of the vaccinated children for 10 to 14 days.

After successful completion of the trial run, the authority will go for a vaccination programme for the school students in Dhaka on a large scale in connivance with the health and education ministries and others, he said.
