Covid-19 claimed seven more lives and infected 306 people in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, showing an increasing trend in infection of the virus compared to the previous day.

Bangladesh saw six coronavirus related deaths and 276 new cases in 24 hours till Tuesday morning with infection rate 1.44.

The case positivity rate increased slightly to 1.53 percent, recovery rate stood at 97.70 percent while the daily mortality rate remained static at 1.77 percent, according the according to the Directorate General of the Health services (DGHS).

With the fresh numbers, the Covid fatalities stood at 27,841 while the caseload climbed to 15,68,563 the DGHS said in a handout this afternoon.

The fresh cases were detected after testing 19,951 samples at 833 laboratories in the country at the same time.

Some 288 people declared free from the virus taking the total number of recovery to 15,32,468, the DGHS data said.

The country last witnessed an upswing in fatalities reaching its peak on August 5 and 10 when 264 deaths were recorded.

Among the victims, three people died in Dhaka division, two in Khulna, one each in Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions while no case of casualty was reported in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal and Sylhet divisions during the period.

Of the deceased, three were male and four were female and the deceased were aged between 21 and 70 years.

Six victim out of the seven breathed their last while undergoing treatment at different public hospitals while one at a private hospital at the same time.

Meanwhile, Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has recorded 49, 81, 395 deaths so far caused by the virus and 24, 54, 03, 909 cases worldwide.

Since the outbreak of the virus in China in 2019, the health authority in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020 and recorded the first death on March 18 in the same year.

Meanwhile, the government has announced that it will begin administering the second dose of coronavirus vaccine from Thursday under the mass vaccination campaign.

The campaign will begin around 9am and continue till 3pm and the time span will be extended if necessary, Md Shamsul Haque, member secretary of the vaccine deployment committee, said in a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
