Bangladesh’s coronavirus-related death toll rose to 29,005 as the health authorities registered 10 more deaths of the virus during the past 24 hours across the country till Thursday morning, showed the government data.

The health authorities also registered 1,516 new cases of the virus during the 24 hours period, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a hand out this afternoon.

The daily positivity rate of the virus dropped to 5.53 percent down from Wednesday 5.58 percent, the DGHS said.

Bangladesh registered five coronavirus-related deaths with 1,298 fresh cases on Wednesday and 16 deaths and 1,595 related cases on Tuesday.

The mortality rate of the virus remained static at 1.50 percent while the recovery rate increased to 92.09 percent which was 91.82 percent a day ago.

With the updated official figure, the death toll of the virus mounted to 29,005 while the caseload to 19,39,651.

The new cases were detected after testing 27,434 samples at 875 government authorised laboratories in the country during the 24 hours period.

Meanwhile, 6,459 patients of the coronavirus were released from different public and private hospitals, taking the total number of recovery to 17,86,146.

Among the new deceased, eight were male and two was female and they were aged between 31 and 90 years.

Three deaths were counted each in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, two in Rangpur division and one each in Khulna and Sylhet divisions while Rajshahi, Barishal and Mymensingh divisions did not see any casualty of the virus during the 24 hours period.

Of the victims, seven breathed their last while undergoing treatment at deferment public hospitals and three at private hospitals.

Bangladesh, on January 28, registered its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37 percent reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

On December 9 last year, the health authorities again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.

Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.

Since the outbreak of the virus at Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020 and the first death on March 18 in the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has so far recorded 59, 38, 742 deaths so far caused by the virus and 43, 04, 75, 470 cases worldwide.
