China-based global tech giant Huawei called for enhanced public-private cooperation for technological advancement, particularly in the information communication sector.

Corporate Senior Vice-President of Huawei Catherine Chen came up with the call while addressing the St. Gallen Symposium, an annual gathering of ICT technology sector leaders from different countries across the globe, on Wednesday, said a press release.

The event was the 50th edition of the symposium.

Around 1,000 participants from different places took part in the three-day cross-generational dialogue. Christophe Franz, BOD chairman at Roche, Ola Källenius, chairman of Daimler, Satya Nadella, chief executive officer of Microsoft, and Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chief executive officer of HCL Corporation, spoke at the event, the release reads.

Chen believes the technological advancement will require the joint efforts of policymakers, regulators, and the private sector.

"As more devices feature connectivity, more services go online, and more critical infrastructures rely on real-time data exchanges, the governments should ensure that everyone is protected by the highest security standards," she said.

Only a standard set of rules can guarantee a level of security that creates trust in technology, added Chen while addressing the student-led initiative.

This year's St. Gallen Symposium kicked off on May 5.

The event's participants agreed that trust is inherently built on openness and transparency. It is time to take concrete, actionable steps to address the common challenges and risks that have emerged in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, reads the release.
