State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, has branded Walton, a prominent local tech giant, as the premier and most prosperous high-tech park in Bangladesh.

The junior minister made the remarks after visiting Walton’s corporate office located in Chandra area of Gazipur on February 8, reports a press release.

He said that Walton began its journey by producing electronics and home appliances and now it has introduced unparalleled and innovative solutions worldwide through smart devices.

Walton has significantly contributed to enhancing the nation's productivity, serving as an inspiration in fostering a self-sufficient, export-oriented nation through its electronics and digital devices, said the state minister.

“Our commitment to build a smart Bangladesh, setting a target to increase export volume to $5 billion within the next five years. Additionally, we aim to create employment opportunities for over one million during the same period. Walton stands as a pivotal development partner in advancing these initiatives,” he said.

He also highlighted the government's emphasis on locally manufactured products in its procurement process. As part of this commitment, the government utilized nearly 400,000 tabs from Walton during the last population and housing census, resulting in savings of over Tk. 150 crore for the government.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) expressed gratitude to Walton for ensuring the standard and quality of the tabs manufactured by the local tech giant.

Following the census, the government distributed these tabs among students. Such initiatives not only ensure quality but also promise significant cost savings for the government in various endeavors, he said.

At the Walton headquarters, Palak inaugurated the commercial production of solid-state drives (SSDs), introduced a new model of Walton smartphone called 'NexG N72,' and announced a cashback offer of up to 100 percent on Walton computer products.

Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Shamsul Arefin, Walton Digi-Tech Industries Limited’s Chairman SM Rezaul Alam, Managing Director SM Monjurul Alam, Managing Director of Hi-tech Park Authority GSM Jafarullah, Project Director of Aspiration to Innovation a2i Mamunur Rashid Bhuyan and Walton Hi-Tech’s Director Raisa Sigma Hima, among others, were also present at the event.
