Tarupallab Dwijen Sharma Nisharga Award 2021 given

The "City Bank-Tarupallab Dwijen Sharma Nisharga Award 2021" was given Saturday at the Bangla Academy's Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad auditorium.

The "City Bank-Tarupallab Biodiversity Award" went to Enam ul Haque, naturalist and founder of Bangladesh Bird Club, for his contribution to the conservation of biodiversity.

Three people received the "City Bank-Tarupallab Brikkhoshokha Award" for their inspirational work on plants. The awardees are freedom fighter Shahjahan Mridha Benu, social worker Razia Samad Dalia and orchid collector Salma Binte Noor, said a press release.

And this year's City Bank-Tarupallab Dwijen Sharma Nisharga Award went to the Saroatoli Reserve Forest Committee of Baghaichari upazila, Rangamati. Zotin Chakma, president of the committee, received the award.

A total of Tk275,000 cheques were given to the five awardees in three categories along with certificates, crests and stoles.

Tarupallab President and Bangabandhu Chair of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre Selina Hossain presided over the ceremony.

Professor Emeritus of Brac University Dr Ainun Nishat, Executive Director of Campaign for Popular Education Rasheda K Chowdhury, Professor of Bangla at the University of Dhaka Biswajit Ghosh, and Bangladesh Bank General Manager Khandaker Morshed Millat attended the event as special guests.

Tarupallab, a non-government organisation working on environmental protection, has been conferring the award since last year to mark the death anniversary of naturalist and science writer Dwijen Sharma, who was awarded the Bangla Academy Award in 1987, and Ekushey Padak in 2015.
