Bangladesh Data Center Company Limited (BDCCL) will buy cloud engineering system with a cost of Tk 154.80 crore through the Direct Purchase Method (DPM) to run two Tier IV data centers, an official of ICT division, said.

An ICT division proposal to purchase the cloud system will be placed before cabinet committee on public purchase on Wednesday. The meeting will be presided over by finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

The proposal said the cloud system will be used to run two Tier IV centers at Kaliakoir in Gazipur for next three years. The BDCCL will buy the cloud hosting from a USA ICT firm, Oracle Corporation.

The ICT division in 2016 had set up both the centres on a two lakh square feet facility, that too on seven acres of land.

It was established with the Chinese financial and technical assistances with the certification from the USA’s Uptime Institute, an organisation best known for its “Tier Standard” and associated certification of data centre compliance standards.

It had cost the government Tk 1,599.55 crore to establish the centre at Kaliakoir in Gazipur.

In December 2019 , the government formed a specialised firm --BDCCL -- to run, store and manage business oriented data in the country.

The company’s paid-up capital will be Tk 50 crore while authorised capital Tk 2,000 crore, respectively.
