Bangladesh leads the world with 150 LEED-certified green factories

The total number of LEED-certified factories in Bangladesh has reached to 150, a new milestone in the world.

Of these factories, 44 are the most green and have been dubbed platinum followed by 93 gold and nine silver respectively.

“Total number of LEED certified green factories reach 150! Congratulations RMG industry,” tweets Rubana Huq, former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Sunday evening.

USA Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gives the certification after assessing some vital criteria.

Now, nine out of the top 10 green factories are in Bangladesh.

Buyers do not pay extra money for sourcing from green buildings, but it helps building the country’s image outside world.
