Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) in association with the Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RCAP), a Republic of Korea (ROK) entity, organized a webinar on Thursday titled Regional Perspective of UNCITRAL ADR Instruments on Ease of Doing Business in Asia and the Pacific.

Taking part in the event, the panel speakers from Bangladesh and Korea including government officials, bankers, and academicians suggested that the UNCITRAL ADR instruments are now imperative for facilitating doing business and enhancing access to justice as a means for Bangladesh and Asia and the Pacific region, said a press release.

Chairman of the BIAC Board Mahbubur Rahman said the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration is a unique law that assists states to take into account the particular features and needs of international commercial arbitration.

Enforcing contracts including the adoption and implementation of UNCITRAL texts of ADR are essential components in this regard, Rahman categorised.

Head of UNCITRAL RCAP Athita Komindr favoured using UNCITRAL texts in providing the basic legal framework for improving doing business.

She opined that Bangladesh should sign the Singapore Convention on Mediation for easier access to justice.

She also called for framing a pragmatic ADR mechanism for reducing the judicial backlog, the release reads.
