Govt to face daunting task of implementing budget: CPD

Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a leading think-tank in Bangladesh, has said the proposed national budget for the next fiscal year will face a big challenge to implement.

Its Executive Director Fahmida Khatun gave her instant reaction to the budget proposed by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the parliament on Thursday.

She said the priority-based issues and the present situation of the coronavirus have been ignored in the proposed budget.

The government expects 7.2 percent GDP growth, which is somewhat realistic but a large investment both from private and public sectors is required to attain the goal, she said.

“However, the budget did not give any outline about such investment.”

About the proposed revenue target, the executive director said the budget did not clear how the target will be achieved.

But the CPD applauded the proposed budget for lowering corporate taxes for the companies to cope with the losses caused by the pandemic.
