Bangladesh Bank has asked all banks to increase the daily cash withdrawal limit from automated teller machine or ATM to Tk1 lakh.

In a circular on Monday the central bank said banks should take necessary steps to ensure availability of funds in the ATMs during a weeklong stricter lockdown that starts from Wednesday.

Presently, the cash withdrawal limit from ATMs varies depending on the banks. But most of the banks set the ceiling at Tk50,000 per day. But there are banks that allow its customers to withdraw Tk1 lakh or more from an ATM a day. For example, the ceiling is Tk2 lakh for a City Gem customer of City Bank.

The central bank also said that the mobile financial services should operate properly for transactions to buy necessary goods and services.

Also, there should not be any shortage of money in the MFS channel, it said.

The BB also said banks should make internet banking services more effective so that people can make transactions easily.
