MoU signed to facilitate pvt company employees in universal pension scheme

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the National Pension Authority and the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC) in order to simplify the participation of the employees of private companies in the Universal Pension Scheme.

The National Pension Authority is an entity under the Finance Division while the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms is a body under the Ministry of Commerce, reports BSS.

Finance Division Secretary Dr Khairuzzaman Mozumder was present on the occasion as the chief guest.

Executive chairman of National Pension Authority Kabirul Ezdani Khan and Registrar of RJSC Md Abdus Samad Al Azad signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.

Commerce Ministry additional secretary Maleka Khairunnesa, Finance Division additional secretary Sulekha Rani Bosu, National Pension Authority member M Golam Mostafa and concerned officials of the respective ministries and organizations were present, among others, on the occasion, said a press release of the Finance Division.

Earlier on August 17 in 2023, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched officially the operations of the Universal Pension Scheme. The four schemes which have already been launched are Probash (for the expatriate Bangladeshis), Pragati (for the private employees), Surokkha (for the self employed) and Samata (for the low income people).

Under the Pragati scheme, any private firm can register itself with the scheme and thus can operate pension account for its employees. Under such scheme, there are options for depositing Tk 2,000, Tk 3,000, Tk 5,000 and Tk 10,000.

The release said the RJSC till October 2023 has provided registration to some 2.87 lakh business entities. Through signing of this MoU, it would be easier for the officials and employees of the private organizations and firms to get registered with the Pragati pension scheme.

It is mentionable that so far some 16,000 Bangladeshis have registered themselves with the Universal Pension Scheme while the authority has invested Tk 11.31 crore with the government Treasury bond.
