BB to introduce national debit card on Nov 1

Bangladesh Bank (BB) will introduce debit cards by November this year to reduce dependency on foreign companies and protect the country’s reserve of foreign currencies.
Md Mezbaul Haque, BB spokesperson, on Monday said that they have a plan to introduce the national debit card on November 1 of the current year.
however, said that the date has not yet been fixed as the central bank will hold a press conference to inform the exact date in this regard later.
Several banks including Sonali Bank and BRAC Bank are also assisting in the pilot programme to make the efforts successful, he added.
“We will introduce the National Debit Card first and then several features will be added to the card,” he said.
Earlier on June 2, the BB governor, in a post-budget press conference, said that they are working to introduce National Debit and Credit cards so that people can ensure their transactions by using the cards without carrying money anywhere.
