Submit report on loan scams, banking sector situation: PM to officials

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered officials concerned to let her know the developments in the country’s banking sector especially on loan scams at various banks including Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited. 

The prime minister gave the instruction in the secretary committee meeting on Sunday. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office.

At the end of the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam briefed the journalists.

He however, said, the matter of the Islami Bank loan swindle “was indirectly discussed in the meeting and instructions were given to the Financial Institutions Division under the Finance Ministry (to look into the matter).”

“There is so much talk spreading around, what is the real scenario, let us know soon,” the Cabinet Secretary told his fellow officials in the meeting.

While dwelling on the Islami Bank loan swindle, Anwarul did not make any clear comments. He said he browsed the internet and found some lectures on YouTube.

“I browsed the internet and saw various lectures on YouTube about some banks... Yet it was not neglected (in the meeting).
