BRAC Bank among top sustainable banks in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Sunday, July 3, 2022: BRAC Bank has been named one of Bangladesh's top 10 sustainable banks for two consecutive years.

Bangladesh Bank has conferred the prestigious award to BRAC Bank as per the Sustainability Rating of 2021 and 2020.

Since 2020, the central bank's Sustainable Finance Department (SFD) has recognised ten banks and five financial institutions for their outstanding performance in environmental protection, social transformation, climate change, and contribution to sustainable development goals.

Bank’s Deputy Managing Director & COO Md Sabbir Hossain received the award from Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir on June 30.

Abu Farah Md Nasser, deputy governor; Khondkar Morshed Millat, director, SFD; Chowdhury Liakat Ali, additional director, SFD; Bangladesh Bank, and Shahriar Rahman, senior manager and head of Sustainability, BRAC Bank; were also present.

Commenting on the accolade, Md Sabbir Hossain said, “We are immensely honoured to have been recognized as one of the Top Ten Sustainable Banks two years in a row. This prestigious recognition will inspire us to expand our sustainability initiatives further. Our business model, centred around governance, transparency, ethics and compliance, has laid the strong foundation to excel in green financing, sustainable CSME & agriculture financing and socially responsible initiatives.”

“As a responsible corporate entity, we emphasize utilising the Green Transformation Fund and green refinancing programmes of Bangladesh Bank and strive to reduce the country's carbon footprint. As a mission-driven organization, we are strongly committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our CSR initiatives are also focused on programmes that have a lasting impact on society and people,” he added.
