Banks to remain open in some areas on July 8, 9

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) instructed all scheduled banks of the country to operate their branches in specific zones on July 8 and 9 (Friday and Saturday) to clear payments of the ready-made garment workers and employees, pay export bills and for other transactions just before Eid-ul-Azha which will be celebrated on the next day.

The BB issued a notification in this regard on Sunday.

According to the notification, the branches in the ready-made garment (RMG) zones — under Dhaka metropolitan, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayangaj, and Chattogram — have to remain open on the mentioned dates.    

The central bank also instructed the branches to ensure proper security measures.

Bangladesh Bank clearing service will remain in operations on those days, it adds.
