Cabinet allows import of 40 oxygen generators

The government has approved buying of 40 oxygen generators without tender to speed up the purchasing process to meet the demand for Oxygen amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The approval came in a cabinet committee on public purchase’s virtual meeting on Wednesday.
“The cabinet approved the industries ministry’s proposal to purchase the oxygen generators,” said Dr Sahida Akter, additional secretary to the Cabinet Division, after the meeting.
The move has been taken to avert a situation like what neighbouring India has been experiencing for over a month, she said.
An allocation of over Tk90.06 crore has been earmarked for the oxygen generator purchase, according to the industries ministry.
The procurement will be done through the ‘direct purchase method’ instead of floating tender, officials said.
