3.70 lakh posts remain vacant in govt job: Farhad

Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain on Tuesday said a total of 3,70,447 job positions out of approved 19,00,151 are vacant now in Bangladesh.
He said while addressing the "BSRF Dialogue" arranged by Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the Media Centre at the Secretariat here.
BSRF President Fasih Uddin Mahtab presided over the programme while Masudul Haque conducted it.
Replying to a question that women are lagging behind in BCS, Farhad Hossain said currently 11 secretaries out of total 84 are women.
The number of women additional secretaries is 75, joint secretaries 164 and deputy secretaries 394 and senior assistant secretaries 658, he said.
Besides, among the 64 deputy commissioners, seven are women while 151 women UNOs and 88 women assistant commissioners (Land) are working across the country, the minister said adding there is one woman divisional commissioner too.
Farhad Hossain said the country is marching forward in women empowerment as 29 percent government job holders are women.
Replying to another question, he said allegations were lodged against 351 governement officers between grade 1 and 9 in the last 10 years and of them, 41 officers were given major punishment and 140 got minor punishment.
Overall, 181 were awarded punishment while 170 others were acquitted, he added.
