At least four people lost their lives as unidentified perpetrators intentionally ignited a fire on a Benapole Express train in Gopibag area of the capital Dhaka on Friday night.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, said Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell.

The firefighters recovered four bodies from the gutted coaches of the train.

Arsonists torched the four coaches of the Benapole Express train at 9:05 pm.

On information, eight firefighting units from adjoining areas rushed to the spot after 9:25 pm and brought the blaze under control around 10:20 pm, he added.

Three coaches of the Dhaka-bound train were entirely gutted in the flames.

With the four, a total of eight persons have died in separate train fire incidents in the country since October 28.

Earlier on December 19, miscreants set fire to Mohanganj Express at Tejgaon Railway station in the capital.

Three coaches of the train were completely gutted in the fire. Later, the bodies of four people, including a mother and her minor child, were recovered from a compartment.
