Khaleda Zia can take treatment abroad if court allows her: PM Hasina

BNP Chairperson Kahelda Zia can take advanced treatment abroad if the country’s court allows her, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina categorically has said.

During an interview with VOA Journalist Satarupa Barua on Saturday Hasina said, “Khaleda Zia must go to prison first if she wants to go abroad for treatment.”

“If they (BNP) want to take Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment, they must go to court. They have to apply. If the court permits her then she can go abroad. We have no scope to interfere in the court's activities,” Hasina said.

“As the prime minister I have suspended her sentence on humanitarian grounds and allowed her to stay home for better treatment,” she said, adding that Khaleda Zia is being treated at the most expensive hospital in the country.

“Now I will have to withdraw the permission that I granted her (Khaleda Zia) to stay home and then she must return back to prison and apply to the court if she wants to go abroad,” Hasina said.

At the beginning of the interview, Hasina rejected the question and posed a counter question saying that has a convict accused been able to go abroad for treatment in any country in the world?
