Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud has said his party would come to power again through free and fair elections as he exchanged views with Bangladeshi expatriates in Canada.

"A section of people and groups, who don't like country's development, are carrying out different propagandas at home and abroad. But, Awami League will come to power again through free and fair polls," he said.

While addressing the function at AL Toronto office, the minister said most of the propagandas against Bangladesh are being hatched from abroad, said a release received here today.

"I am urging all expatriates to give befitting reply to those propagandas," he said.

Hasan said conspiracy against Bangladesh was also held in 1971. But, Bangladesh had achieved independence, he added.

"Similarly, no one can hinder the ongoing development of Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he continued.

AL Canada unit founder President Sarwar Hossain and AL Ontario unit founder President Farooque Hasan, among others, addressed the meeting with Ontario AL unit President Mostafa Kamal in the chair.

Ontario AL unit General Secretary Litan Masud conducted it.

Earlier, the information minister joined a view-exchange meeting with the Chattogram University's former students who are now staying in Canada.

Terming all Bangladeshi expatriates as ambassadors of the country, Dr Hasan said the expatriates have a pivotal role in the unprecedented development of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Expatriates Mohammad Amin Mia, Shahabuddin Ahmed, Showgat Ali Sagar, Giasuddin Ahmed, Shafi Ahmed, AMM Toha, Sazzad Hossain, Jahirul Haque Chowdhury, Kazi Jahiruddin and Minara Begum, among others, addressed it.
