Dengue claims 11 lives, infects 2,944 in 24hrs

Dengue claimed 11 more lives and infected 2,944 persons across the country in the last 24 hours till Monday morning, according to the health department.
With the latest deaths, this year’s total deaths from the mosquito-borne disease mounted to 741 and the caseloads to 15,1,272 as of Monday, according to a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the fresh casualties, seven dengue patients died while undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the capital Dhaka and the rest four outside it.
the 24 hours period, 967 were admitted to different hospitals in the capital Dhaka and 1,977 patients outside it, said the DGHS.
A total of 9,816 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. Of them, 4,207 are in Dhaka while 5,609 are outside of the capital, it added.
According to the DGHS statement, among the total dengue positive cases, 57,932 are female and 93,340 are male. Of the total deaths, 428 were female and 313 were male.
The authorities have recorded the highest number of dengue positive cases outside Dhaka in August this year meaning the mosquito disease gripped the entire country.
August witnessed 71,976 dengue positive cases, the highest number of cases in a single month since the dengue outbreak began in 2000 in the country, while 342 dengue-related deaths were reported in the current month, the DGHS statement said.
July alone recorded 43,854 dengue positive cases with 204 deaths. As of September 11, the health authority recorded 27,464 dengue positive cases while 148 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease during the same period.
