16 dengue patients die, 2,608 hospitalised in 24hrs

The health authorities recorded 16 more deaths from dengue and 2,608 new related cases during the last 24 hours till 8 am on Sunday.
On September 2, Bangladesh witnessed 21 dengue-related deaths, the highest number in a single day this year.
This year’s death toll from dengue stood at 634 dengue, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a press statement on Sunday.
"During the period, 892 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka while 1,716 were admitted to different hospitals outside Dhaka, said the DGHS.
With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 1,30,302. Besides, some 1,20,823 patients were released from different hospitals this year.
"A total of 8,845 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. Of them, 3,928 are in Dhaka while 4,917 are outside of the capital city.
According to the DGHS statement, among the total dengue positive cases, 49,495 are female and 80,807 are male. Of the total deaths, 369 are female and 265 male.
The authorities have recorded the highest number of dengue positive cases outside Dhaka in August this year meaning the mosquito disease gripped the entire country.
August witnessed 71,976 dengue positive cases, the highest cases in a single month since dengue outbreak began in 2000 in the country while 342 dengue-related deaths were reported in the current month, the DGHS statement said.
