Bangladesh reports highest-ever daily dengue deaths

The health authorities recorded 21 more deaths from dengue in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, raising this year’s fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 618.
Of them, 17 dengue patients died in the capital Dhaka while four outside it, according to a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
During the period, 2,352 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever and of the new patients, 982 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 1370 outside it, said the DGHS.
A total of 8, 632 dengue patients, including 3, 903 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at different hospitals across the country.
The DGHS recorded 1, 27, 694 dengue cases, 1,18,444 recoveries in 2023.
The country logged 281 dengue deaths in 2022 and 179 deaths in 2019.
It also recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
The health authorities recorded the highest number of dengue positive cases outside Dhaka in August this year, meaning the mosquito-borne disease gripped the entire country.
