The health authorities recorded 13 more deaths from dengue in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising this year’s fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 569.

During the period, 2291 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the new patients, 920 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside it, said the DGHS.

A total of 8, 218 dengue patients, including 3, 838 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

The DGHS recorded 1,19,133 dengue cases, 1,10,346 recoveries in 2023.

The country logged 281 dengue deaths in 2022 and 179 deaths in 2019.

It also recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.

The health authorities recorded the highest number of dengue positive cases outside Dhaka in August this year meaning the mosquito-borne disease gripped the entire country.

Dhaka city witnessed 53,489 dengue positive cases between January 1 and August 26 this year while 58,695 cases were reported outside Dhaka during the same period, according to a statement of the DGHS.

According to the statistics of the DGHS, August is being considered as deadliest month this year as the authorities logged 65,010 dengue cases and 569 deaths till today (August 29).

Dhaka saw 30,331 dengue positive cases between January 1 and August 1, 2023 while 24,085 cases were recorded outside Dhaka during the same period.
