Derailment snaps Khulna’s train communication with rest of the country

Train communication of Khulna with the rest of the country has remained suspended since Thursday morning following the derailment of a freight train at Basundia Singiai in Sadar upazila of Jashore district.

Sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman, in-charge of Jashore Railway Police Station, said two bogies of a Natore-bound freight train from Khulna veered off the tracks around 4am, halting train communication.

A relief train rushed to the spot and is conducting a salvage operation till the filing of this report at 10:45am.

Chitra Express train from Dhaka has been stranded at Jashore Railway Station following the derailment.
