Dhaka (Oct 18, 2020): Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will immediately start selling of potato at Tk 25 per kilogramme to meet people’s demand for the vegetable item and to control its price spiral in the market.

The selling of potato at the government fixed price will be ensured and the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection and other government agencies have started working to make the effort successful, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said today.

“No one will be given scope in any circumstances to make extra profit illegally,” the commerce minister came up with statement at a meeting held with leaders of Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA) and potato traders at his ministry office in Dhaka.

There is no scarcity of potato in the country as there was a huge potato production in the country this year, the minister said.

The potato price went up due to the flood and thus its price went up but there is no any logical ground to go the price up against the government fixed rate, he said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agricultural Extension has fixed the potato price at Tk 23 per kilogramme at cold storage level, Tk 25 at wholesale and Tk 30 at retail level
