The ongoing heatwave may continue across the country till April 18, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

“A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over the country and it will continue till April 17 to 18 if the present synoptic situation remains unchanged,” AKM Nazmul Hoque, meteorologist of the BMD told the Business Insider Bangladesh.

According to the BMD forecast valid for 24 hours commencing 09 am today, a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and it may continue.

The weather may remain dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky over the country and the day and night temperature may rise slightly, said the BMD.  

Trough of low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.

On Wednesday, the country's maximum temperature was recorded 39.7 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga while the lowest temperature was recorded 18.5 degrees Celsius in Tetulia.

If the temperature remains between 38°C and 39.9°C, it is called a moderate heat wave, if it remains between 40°C and 41.9°C, it is called a severe heat wave and if the temperature climbs to 42°C, it is called an extreme heat wave.
