Prothom Alo journo denied bail, sent to jail in DSA case

Dhaka court on Thursday sent Prothom Alo reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams to jail after denying his bail petition in connection with a case filed against him under the Digital Security Act.

Md Tofazzal Hossain, additional chief metropolitan magistrate of Dhaka, passed the order after Shams was produced before the court this noon. Earlier in the day Shams was produced before around 10:10 am.

A plainclothes Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team first picked up Shams from his residence in Ambagan area, adjacent to Jahangirnagar University, around 4:30 am on Wednesday.

The same day, a Jubo League leader filed a case under the DSA against Shams, accusing him of publishing a false and fabricated report in the daily Prothom Alo.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday said that the CID members arrested the reporter in connection with a case.

Besides, editor of one the leading dailies, Matiur Rahman, has been sued alongside other staff under the DSA.
