The government will reduce the prices of gas and electricity in the country if the fuel price declines in the global market, said Prime Minister’s Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs Advisor Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on Thursday.

At the same time, the Electricity prices at the retail level were increased by 15 percent in three phases since the beginning of the current year in accordance with the price of the world market.

The gas and electricity prices will be reduced in the country if the downward trend in the fuel price continues for some more months in the international market, Chowdhury said.

He was talking to reporters after unveiling the cover of a book at a function held at the Biddut Bhaban, organised by the Forum for Energy Reporters Bangladesh in Dhaka on Thursday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked authorities concerned to disconnect the gas lines of the offices including government and private if the utility bill remains unpaid.

No matter whether it is a government or private office, just cut the gas connection if the bill remains unpaid, said the advisor.
