Norwegian king appreciates Bangladesh’s role in poverty alleviation

King Harald V of Norway has appreciated the role of the government of Bangladesh in poverty alleviation and socio-economic development of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Embassy said on Friday.

He made the remark as Mehdi Hasan, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to Norway, presented his credentials to him at the Royal Palace.

Before the day of the presentation of credentials, the ambassador had courtesy meetings with the deputy secretary general, chief of protocol and other high officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the day of the presentation of credentials, the ambassador called on Anniken Huitfeldt, minister of foreign affairs in the morning.

Later, the ambassador was escorted to the Royal Palace by transport of the foreign ministry, where the high officials of the Royal Palace greeted the Ambassadors in a simple ceremony and a guard of honour was provided by the military guards.

Then, the ambassador was received by King Herald V for a formal audience, where he accepted the letter of credence of Mehdi as the new Bangladesh ambassador to Norway.

The ambassador conveyed the greetings of the president and prime minister of Bangladesh to the king and people of Norway.

In response, the king conveyed the greetings of the people of Norway to the president and prime minister of Bangladesh.

He expressed satisfaction with the bilateral relations between the two countries and was curious to know about the development of Bangladesh.

The ambassador briefed him about the socio-economic development that happened in Bangladesh during the last decades.

He highlighted the priorities of the Bangladesh government in line with Vision 2041 to become a developed and Smart Bangladesh by 2041.

The ambassador also highlighted different aspects of the bilateral relationship with a particular focus on trade, investment, IT, technology transfer, climate change, green transition, etc.

He also briefed the King about the Rohingya issue in Bangladesh and requested the cooperation of Norway for their safe, sustainable and dignified return to their homeland Myanmar.
