Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that the spirit of the Liberation War will be spoiled if BNP comes to the country’s state power.

“BNP is a patron of communal forces and militant outfits. We can’t hand over power to it,” Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, made the remarks in a meeting organised by Dhaka South unit Awami League to commemorate Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day.

After the country’s independence in 1971, Bangabandhu returned home via London and New Delhi on January 10 in 1972 after being freed from jail in Pakistan.

Quader said that another name of Bangladesh is Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and he will remain alive as long as this land exists.

Pointing to today's mass sit-in programme of BNP, Quader said the 54-part alliance has joined their hands to meet their evil design but they can’t do anything.

Quader said he did not stay home even for 50 days during the BNP regime.

“Two BNP leaders are now behind bars for 26 days but some media are writing in a way as if they have been in jail for 26 thousand years,” he said.

Quader once again sounded a note of caution that there will be a game against corruption, looting spree and misrule and misdeeds of BNP.
