‘I worked for Digital Bangladesh, welfare of people,’ says outgoing cabinet secretary

Outgoing Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam.

Outgoing Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam has said he was one of the few people to execute the government’s projects to transform Bangladesh into a ‘Digital’ nation.

He said after a cabinet meeting on Monday in the city that he has tried to work for the welfare of the people of Bangladesh.

The cabinet meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The cabinet secretary is going to retire on December 15 at the end of his contract period. Kabir bin Anwar, senior secretary to the Ministry of Water Resources, is replacing him.

“I was among the few people who got to work for Digital Bangladesh under the leadership of the Prime Minister,” Anwarul said.

Referring to PM Sheikh Hasina, he said she gave the bureaucrats two themes, providing services to the people’s doorsteps and providing constituents the services with their fingertips.

She had said, “I will give you money, you will implement it.”

In his last briefing, Anwarul said, “We had started making Union Digital Center in 2010 at the 4,500 Unions across the country. I was responsible for the Island “Char Kukrimukri.”

He said the Prime Minister and Ministers expressed their satisfaction that the mega projects have been implemented. Other mega projects will be successful because Padma bridge has been completed fruitfully.
