Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Saturday said that BNP wants to hold its public rally in front of its Naya Paltan headquarters with an intention to create anarchy and instability in the country.

The minister said this while briefing reporters after visiting Awami League’s meeting venue in Chattogram city to be held on Sunday.

The Information Minister said the government has given BNP permission to hold the December 10 rally at Suhrawardy Udyan based on their application.

“But they want to hold a rally at Nayapaltan to create anarchy in the country,” he added.

Hasan Mahmud said that the government will not allow the BNP-Jamat nexus to create any anarchical situation in the country.

DMP permits BNP to hold Dec 10 rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on 26 conditions

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on November 29 permitted BNP to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on December 10 from 12: pm to 4:30 pm.

The 26 conditions include limiting the rally within the boundary of the Suhrawardy Udyan, not installing public announcement systems outside the boundary, ensuring the presence of party leaders and activists at the venue only two hours before the beginning of the rally, prohibiting party people from coming to the rally in processions and not carrying any stick in the form of carrying flags or placards.

The party has already organized rallies in Chattogram, Mymensingh, Khulna, Rangpur, Barishal, Faridpur, Sylhet and Cumilla braving various obstacles and transport strikes.

BNP has long been demanding that the next general election be held under a caretaker government, not under any political government.

But the demand has sharply been rejected by the ruling Awami League as the constitution does not allow it to happen.

BNP will conclude the divisional rallies through a mass gathering in Dhaka on December 10, coinciding with International Human Rights day.
