Authorities of Greater Dhaka Sustainable Urban Transport Project (BRT, Gazipur-Airport) have requested outbound passengers – going to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport – to start early, between 6 pm on Thursday and 6 am Sunday.

In a special traffic advisory, ASM Ilias Shah, the project director on Thursday, made the request to avoid possible traffic congestion on the route during the period.

On Wednesday, Dhaka Bus Rapid Transit Company authorities requested commuters in the capital not to use the Dhaka-Uttara route via Khilkhet for three days from Thursday.

The move comes as the traffic situation on the route is expected to be worsening due to the development work of the BRT project.

Special road development work for the BRT project will be conducted in the airport area during the period, said Ilias Shah.

Under the circumstances, all public and private vehicles have been advised to avoid Dhaka Airport-Uttara route to avert any untoward incident.

Earlier on August 15, five members of a family, including two children, were crushed to death after a girder of the BRT project in Uttara fell on their private car. A newlywed couple also travelling with them, fortunately, escaped death.
