Lord Karan Bilimoria, Birmingham University chancellor and Confederation of British Industry president, has said the unprecedented uplift of Bangladesh is inspiring for the global community.

“Global community is getting inspired and motivated by the unprecedented uplift of Bangladesh,” he said while addressing a special lecture on ‘Business, Finance and Economy’ at Dhaka University Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban in Dhaka on Thursday.

“Bangladesh has managed to achieve tremendous success in various sectors especially education, economy, trade and commerce,” said Bilimoria.

Academicians from home and abroad attending the special lecture meticulously lauded Bangladesh’s tremendous success in different fields especially education, economy, trade and commerce in the last one decade.

Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman chaired the function while DU Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Mohammad Samad, Pro-VC (Academic) Professor ASM Maksud Kamal and Treasurer Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed also addressed it.

Bilimoria said the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is putting adverse impacts on the global economy, food security and energy sector and Bangladesh is also facing the impacts.

Loss of life and property is being reported everyday from the war field which must be stopped, he mentioned.

He called upon the Bangladeshi students, teachers and researchers to pursue their higher education from the UK which is the best destination for international students.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be inked soon between the DU and Birmingham University regarding the collaboration, he said.

“Learning never ends and collaboration on education and research is a must,” he said.

Prof Akhtaruzzaman thanked Bilimoria for his motivational and inspirational lecture and said students, faculties and researchers will be highly benefited by his valuable speech.

The DU VC paid glowing tributes to the memory of Lord Karan Bilimoria’s father Lt General Faridoon Blimoria who led the Gorkha Rifles and played a heroic role during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

So, this Bilimoria family has a strong attachment with Bangladesh, DU VC pointed out.
